Ski A to Z by Kimberley Kay – out now!
Today we are delighted to be joined by author, Kimberley, as we celebrate publication of Ski A to Z!
New book Ski A to Z is a fun, practical, fully illustrated introduction to Alpine skiing, intended to answer all the questions new skiers may have and to help prepare them for mountain experiences.
Kimberley tells us more about her fantastic debut book and why she both wrote and illustrated it (beautifully!) …
“Many people may be put off skiing as they simply haven’t a clue where to start, what questions to ask – or even the confidence to ask those questions. Ski A to Z removes that barrier, giving all newbies access to the information they need to venture into the sport and opens the door to experiencing the wonder of skiing.
“Being involved in skiing has made a huge difference to our lives. Skiing is wonderful, visually in terms of the stunning mountain environments, and also physically in the dynamism and focus needed to accomplish it. It’s hard to think of people not having the opportunity to have that experience and it is for this reason that I have written Ski A to Z.
“I hope that Ski A to Z will make the sport increasingly accessible to a more diverse audience by helping people to feel that they have adequate information to give skiing a try.
“The book will save so much time in getting to grips with the mountain experience. It’s a book which will continue paying dividends to readers as they progress in the sport, as it is packed with knowledge, advice and encouragement to enjoy the sport.
“I developed the concept through the successive lockdown periods of the past two years. When it was not possible to ski I sketched (I have studied art), painted, researched and wrote on the theme of skiing, and as the content developed I realised that it would be a great concept for a book.”
“The book is like an all knowing ski friend and shares things it can take years to learn otherwise. There is information from artificial slopes, through to powder skiing, explanation of how boots and bindings work through to advice on what to wear and safety tips.
“I’m delighted that Meyer & Meyer Sport are publishing the book, allowing it to reach and empower more people to experience the joy of skiing and mountain environments.”
Thank you Kimberley! And indeed, Kim’s skiing knowledge and artistic skills are the perfect combination. Ski A to Z is full-colour, hardback, beautiful – yet not too big to pop in your suitcase! It makes a perfect gift or learning resource for skiers and the ski curious of all ages.
As well as being one fine artist, Kim started skiing aged five. She has over forty years of ski experience including racing, teaching, and heli-skiing, as well as ski holiday promotion during a 20 year career in travel PR, which included running the press offices for Going Places and TUI UK. Kimberley spent much of her childhood and teenage years skiing and working at Ski Rossendale, which is now part of the The Hill outdoor entertainment venue.
Kim’s passion for skiing, and enthusiasm for sharing helpful insights shines through her writing and illustrations. We hope that Ski A to Z will give people the inspiration and confidence to try the sport. Ski A to Z is available now through all good bookstores and online retailers.
